Enable maximum limits to be established for compensation in tribunal awards
for cases involving unlawful discrimination; and for connected purposes.
Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and
consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present
Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
All compensatory awards for unfair or wrongful dismissal or discrimination
arising out of employment shall be subject to a maximum limit of £50,000.
This Act shall have effect and shall be construed by the courts of the United
Kingdom as having effect notwithstanding the European Communities Act
This Act may be cited as the Tribunals (Maximum Compensation Awards) Act
This Act comes into force at the end of the period of 2 months beginning with
the day on which it is passed.
(3) This Act extends to the whole of the United Kingdom.
