Energy Demand Reduction Bill (HC Bill 150)

TO
Require the Secretary of State to draw up and implement a strategy for energy
demand reduction; and for connected purposes.
Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and
consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present
Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Demand Reduction Strategy
(1)
The Secretary of State must within 12 months of the passing of this Act draw
up a strategy setting out cost effective policies to achieve a reduction in
demand for—
(a) 5electricty of—
(i) at least 69 TWh by 2020, and
(ii) a further 32 TWh by 2030;
(b) gas of at least 74 TWh by 2020; and
(c) oil, coal and other fuels of at least 53 TWh by 2020.
(2) 10The Secretary of State must implement the strategy.
2 Citation and Extent
(1) This Act may be cited as the Energy Demand Reduction Act 2014.
(2) This Act extends to—
(a) England, and
(b) 15subject to the agreement of the Welsh Assembly Government, to Wales.
