TO
Require that asylum claims in the United Kingdom be lodged within three
months of the claimant’s arrival in the United Kingdom; and that persons who
have already entered the United Kingdom and wish to make an asylum claim
must do so within three months of the passing of this Act.
Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and
consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present
Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Asylum claims
(1)
No claim for asylum by a person resident in the United Kingdom shall be made
later than three months after that person‘s arrival in the United Kingdom
where such date of arrival is after this Act has received Royal Assent.
(2)
5No claim for asylum by a person resident in the United Kingdom at the time
that this Act receives Royal Assent shall be made later than three months after
Royal Assent.
(3)
Section 18 of the Nationality Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 is hereby
amended to replace 18(1)(c) with the following words “A claim for asylum has
10been made by him within the time limit specified by the Asylum Time Limit
Act at a place designated by the Secretary of State”.
2 Short title and commencement
(1) This Act may be cited as the Asylum (Time Limit) Act 2015.
(2) This Act shall come into force on the day of Royal Assent.
