School Admissions Bill (HC Bill 54)

TO

Make provision to ensure that pupils with a parent with a terminal or
seriously disabling illness receive priority in the admissions process to
maintained schools in England.

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and
consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present
Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Schools Admission Code

Any reference to a looked after child in the Schools Admission Code issued
under Section 84 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 shall be
taken to include a reference to a child with a parent or guardian who is
5terminally ill or suffering a seriously disabling illness.

2 Extent, commencement and short title

(1) This Act extends to England only.

(2) This Act comes into force on the day on which it is passed.

(3) This Act may be cited as the Schools Admissions Act 2014.
