Charity Trustees (Time Off for Duties) Bill (HC Bill 351)

TO

Amend the Employment Rights Act 1996 to give charity trustees the right to
time off work for the purposes of carrying out the duties of that office; and for
connected purposes.

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and
consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present
Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Amendment to the Employment Rights Act 1996

(1) Section 50 of the Employment Rights Act 1996 (right to time off for public
duties) is amended as follows.

(2) In subsection (1), after paragraph (a), insert—

(aa) 5a charity trustee within the meaning given in section 177 of the
Charities Act 2011 (Meaning of “charity trustees”) and section
106 of the Charities and Trustees Investment Act 2005 (General
interpretation)”.

2 Extent, commencement and short title

(1) 10This Act extends to England and Wales, and Scotland.

(2) This Act comes into force six months after it is passed.

(3) This Act may be cited as the Charity Trustees (Time Off for Duties) Act 2019.
