Make provision regarding the funding of the health service in England in respect of each
financial year until the financial year that ends with 31 March 2024.

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and
consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present
Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Funding settlement for the health service in England

(1) In making an allotment to the health service in England for each financial year specified
in the table, the Secretary of State must allot an amount that is at least the amount
specified in relation to that financial year.

5The table is as follows—

(2) For the purpose of ensuring that the amounts specified in the table are used
only as revenue resource, the Secretary of State must specify under section
223D(2) and (3) of the National Health Service Act 2006 such amounts as the
Secretary of State considers necessary.

(3) 15In respect of each financial year specified in the table, in laying an estimate for
the Department of Health and Social Care for approval by the House of
Commons, the Treasury must ensure that the estimate is consistent with the
amount specified in the table for that financial year.

(4) In this section “an allotment to the health service in England” means an
allotment under section 223B(2) of the National Health Service Act 2006 or a
new allotment under section 223B(3) of that Act.

2 Extent, commencement, expiry and short title

(1) 5This Act extends to England and Wales.

(2) This Act comes into force on the day on which it is passed.

(3) This Act expires at the end of 31 March 2024.

(4) This Act may be cited as the NHS Funding Act 2020.
