“PART A1 Purpose of the Act

Provisions contained in the Act

The four purposes of this Act are—

(a) to establish a statutory Appointments Commission,

(b) to end entry into the House of Lords of hereditary peers by by-election,

(c) to enable peers to retire,

(d) to enable the House to exclude members from the House.”
