TO

Amend the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 to prevent misuse of the title of
veterinary nurse; and for connected purposes.

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and
consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present
Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Amendment of Veterinary Surgeons Act

(1) The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 is amended as follows.

(2) After section 20 (prohibition of use of practitioners’ titles by unqualified
persons) insert—

20A 5Prohibition of use of title “veterinary nurse”

(1) If any person whose name is not entered in the list of veterinary nurses
or the list of European veterinary nurses maintained by the College
(known as the register of veterinary nurses) takes or uses the title of
veterinary nurse or any name, title, addition or description implying
10that that person is so listed, they shall be guilty of an offence.

(2) A person guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable—

(a) on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding the prescribed
sum;

(b) on conviction on indictment to a fine.”

2 15Extent, commencement and short title

(1) This Act extends to the whole of the United Kingdom.

(2) Section 1 comes into force at the end of the period of two months beginning
with the day on which this Act is passed.

(3) This section comes into force on the day on which this Act is passed.

(4) 20This Act may be cited as the Veterinary Nurses (Protection of Title) Act 2015.
