Arrangements for the pre-recess adjournment debate:
Tuesday 21 December
The Backbench Committee has received notice from 51 Members that they wish to take part in the full day pre-Christmas debate
on Tuesday 21 December. The Committee has grouped these Members and subjects into six parts, as follows:

For the first five parts, up to seven Members have indicated they want to raise subjects for which the department is responsible. A Minister from the relevant department will be invited to respond to the issues raised. The new format aims to provide a better structure for the debate and an improved response from the Government to the concerns raised by Members. The Committee would be pleased to hear any comments or feedback from Members on the new format. Members who have submitted a request to speak on Tuesday 21 December

![]() The Committee chose this subject because there is significant support from Members for a wide-ranging debate on the effects
of reductions in expenditure on the work of the Department and on local government, including representations for a debate
from the Communities and Local Government Select Committee and Mr David Lammy.

A debate on Anti-Semitism was suggested by Mike Freer and John Mann, on behalf of the All Party Parliamentary Group against
Anti-Semitism. The Committee chose to schedule this subject for debate in advance of Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January.
