SUPPLEMENT TO THE VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS

PETITION FROM MR JEREMY SMALL

11th October 2007

To the House of Commons.

The Petition of Mr Jeremy Small,

Declares its concern that the Home Office may reduce its grant to the North Yorkshire Police Force.

The Petitioner therefore requests that the House of Commons urges the Home Secretary to abandon any plans to reduce the grant and to retain adequate funding for the county's police force to keep crime levels down.

And the Petitioners remain, etc.

SUPPLEMENT TO THE VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS

PETITION FROM RESIDENTS OF OLD BASING AND LYCHPIT, HAMPSHIRE

15th October 2007

To the House of Commons.

The Petition of residents of Old Basing and Lychpit, Hampshire,

Declares our disquiet with regard to the condition of the village highway infrastructure. We are gravely concerned about the ever-increasing volume of non-local through traffic using the village as a short-cut or 'rat-run'. We believe that the current road layout encourages a disregard of the statutory speed limits and allows traffic to speed unhindered through the village, with little or no respect for the safety or wellbeing of local residents. As residents, we have the right to walk and transport our children to school in safety. We are entitled to go about our daily business and enjoy the facilities offered by the village without fear of serious injury, or the frequent verbal abuse from passing drivers. It is our belief that in the present circumstances, these conditions cannot be met.

The Petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urge the Department for Transport to ensure that the following facilities are provided:

  • Adequate speed reduction measures to provide a safer environment;

  • New pedestrian/bicycle priority crossings at designated road junctions and locations of greatest danger;

  • New and wider pavements to enable the safe passage of a higher number of local residents;

  • Installation of clear road markings and road furniture to highlight the above; and

  • The urgent and democratic consultation of all local residents with regard to this matter.

And the Petitioners remain, etc.
