Dr. David Clark : To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many pesticides and active ingredients are currently approved for use in the United Kingdom ; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maclean : There are currently 3,373 pesticide products approved by my Department representing 409 active ingredients.

Dr. David Clark : To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many applications for new pesticides he has (a) received and (b) approved, for each year since 1985 ; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maclean : Applications for pesticide registration (including renewals) received and approved by my Department were as follows :
