School Fees

Mr. Corbyn : To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the number of allowances and the total amount paid by the Government for the day school fees in both the United Kingdom and overseas for the education of the children of (a) members of his Department, (b) members of the Diplomatic Services communications division and (c) the Overseas Development Administration including children of technical co-operation officers, for the latest which figures are available.

Mr. Sainsbury [holding answer 19 January 1990] : The amount paid in boarding school fees during the last academic year was £7,600,000 for 956 children of members of the Diplomatic Service (including £744,000 for 101 children of members of the communications division) and £1,613,000 for 582 children of employees of the Overseas Development Administration.

Mr. Corbyn : To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the schools from which receipted bills were submitted in the last convenient year to facilitate the payment of allowances for the education of the children of diplomatic staff and the number of children attending each school.
