Mr. Baldry : Figures for the whole year are not yet available. For the first 11 months of 1989, imports totalled 13,210 GWh with a value of £285.3 million .

I understand that figures for December will show the United Kingdom was a net exporter of electricity to France.

Director General of Electricity Supply

Mr. Barron : To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is his estimate of the cost to the public purse for the office of the Director General of Electricity Supply.

Mr. Baldry : The costs of the Office of Electricity Regulation will be recovered through fees to be paid by the electricity industry.

Mr. Barron : To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is his estimate of the total cost of establishing the office of the Director General of Electricity Supply.
