New Clause 4

Abolition of death penalty

(1) In section 1 of the Treason Act 1790, for the words "hanged by the neck until she or they be severally dead" there shall be substituted the words "sentenced to imprisonment for life". (2) In section 1 of the Treason Act 1814, for the words "hanged by the neck until such person be dead", there shall be substituted the words "sentenced to imprisonment for life".

(3) In section 2 of the Piracy Act 1837, for the words "suffer death" there shall be substituted the words "sentenced to imprisonment for life".'.-- [Mr. Archer.]
