Licensed Mines

Mr. Ray Powell : To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many prosecutions against licensed mines proprietors were brought by Her Majesty's mines inspectorate in 1990-91.

Mr. Forth : As a result of informations laid by the Health and Safety Executive's mines inspectorate, there was one prosecution of a licensed mine proprietor in 1990-91.

Mr. Ray Powell : To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many licensed mines were inspected in 1990-91 by Her Majesty's mines inspectorate ; and if he will publish a list of each mine inspected.

Mr. Forth : In the 12-month period 1 April 1990 to 31 March 1991 a total of 150 licensed mines were inspected.
