Mr. Fraser : To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the current population of England, Scotland and Wales who are aged 18 years or over.

Mr. Hinchliffe : To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will give his latest figures for the number of outstanding nurse regrading appeals at regional and at national level for each health district or NHS trust in (a) Yorkshire regional health authority and (b) Trent regional health authority ; and when he expects all the regrading appeals to be completed.

Information about regional appeals outstanding for each district or NHS trust in these regions is not available centrally. At 31 May 1991 the number of national clinical grading appeals outstanding in Trent regional health authority and Yorkshire regional health authority was as follows :

These figures include appeals outstanding in NHS trusts. We cannot predict when all the regrading appeals will be completed, but every effort is made to process cases as quickly as possible within the currently agreed procedures.
Mr. Terry Davis : To ask the Secretary of State for Health why he has appointed Mr. John Bettinson to be chairman of the trust for East Birmingham hospital before the end of the consultation period for the proposal to establish a trust for this hospital.
Mr. Waldegrave : NHS trust chairmen and non-executive directors cannot be formally appointed until an NHS trust is established. Our current programme for second-wave NHS trusts envisages formal establishment in the autumn of this year. The names of the chairmen will be provided around the same time.
Mr. Hinchliffe : To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list the applications received for approval in the second wave of NHS trusts.
