Question accordingly agreed to.
Madam Speaker-- forthwith declared the main Question, as amended, to be agreed to.
Resolved,
That this House welcomes the International Year of the Family and urges the Government to continue to pursue policies which ensure that the family remains the cornerstone of society ; recognises that what families most want is independence, opportunity and choice and congratulates the Government on its economic and social policies which have led to dramatic increases in living standards and health, rewarded enterprise and endeavour and given families greater power over their own lives ; welcomes practical measures such as the childcare disregard announced in the Budget ; and believes that the best way to support families is to assert the authority and responsibility of the family itself while providing help for families where it is most needed.
