NHS Provider Units

Dr. Wright: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland which of the executive non-departmental public bodies sponsored by his Department publish (a) annual reports, (b) annual accounts, (c) minutes of meetings, (d) the agendas of meetings and (e) registers of members' interests; and whether this in each case is (i) under statutory requirement or (ii) voluntary.      [20503]

Mr. Lang [holding answer 25 April 1995]: The information which is requested is as follows:

(a) Those executive NDPBs which are covered by the Companies Acts are required to publish annual reports and some other bodies are also required by the statute creating them to publish annual reports. These bodies are:

The minutes of the General Teaching Council for Scotland are published on a voluntary basis; Livingston development corporation voluntarily makes available for public inspection the minutes of those parts of its meetings which it opens to members of the public.

(d) No executive NDPB sponsored by my Department is required to publish the agenda of its meetings and none does so.

Scottish Vocational Education Council

Although registers of members' interests are held by a number of other executive NPDBs, none is required to publish them. Following the publication last year of the code of best practice for board members of public bodies, the Scottish version of which was published in September 1994 and a copy of which is available in the Library of the House, a number of executive NDPBs are considering publication of their register of members' interests on an annual basis, although none has yet done so.

DEFENCE

Bosnia

6. Sir Fergus Montgomery: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when he next expects to visit Bosnia to inspect the work of the UN peacekeeping force.      [20081]

Mr. Rifkind: I hope to be able to visit British forces in Bosnia before the summer recess.

23. Mr. Bayley: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what plans he has to increase the allocation of aircraft fuel to the RAF detachments enforcing the UN no-fly zone over Bosnia.      [20098]

Mr. Freeman: The RAF detachments helping to enforce the UN no-fly zone over Bosnia draw fuel as required to meet their operational commitments. This arrangement works well and there are no plans to change it.

Royal Anglian Regiment

15. Mr. Garnier: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when he next intends to pay an official visit to units of the Royal Anglian Regiment to discuss its future deployment.      [20090]

Mr. Freeman: I look forward to paying an early visit to my local regiment, the Royal Anglians.

Defence Industries

16. Mr. Waterson: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what estimate he has made of the number of people employed in United Kingdom defence industries.      [20091]

Mr. Freeman: I refer my hon. Friend to section 1.10 of "UK Defence Statistics", 1994 edition, which gives details of defence-related employment, published by the Government statistical service. The 1995 edition of this document will be published in July.

Royal Irish Regiment

17. Rev. Martin Smyth: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many soldiers in the Royal Irish Regiment have appealed against their discharge from the regiment in the last two years.      [20092]

Mr. Freeman: Seven soldiers of the Royal Irish Regiment have appealed against discharge from the regiment in the last two years.

Service Personnel (Disablement)

19. Mr. Pickthall: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many people were disabled as a result of injury in the armed forces in the last three years for which he has records.      [20094]

Mr. Freeman: Although statistics for the number of service personnel disabled as a result of injury in the armed services are not held, the numbers of personnel discharged on medical grounds are as follows:
