Mr. Burden: To ask the President of the Board of Trade how much water plcs have spent in takeovers or mergers with (a) electricity companies and (b) other companies. [17477]
Mr. John M. Taylor: This information is not known to my right hon. Friend.
Mr. Alton: To ask the President of the Board of Trade how much European regional development fund funding has been allocated to Merseyside since it acquired objective 1 status; what percentage has so far been spent; and if he will make a statement. [15545]
Mr. John M. Taylor: Under the Merseyside objective 1 programme, the amount of European regional development fund allocated for 1994 and 1995 is £104 million. The amount of ERDF claims paid to date is £13.6 million.
The first ERDF projects under objective 1 were approved in late 1994. Given this, and the lead time for large capital projects, the profile of grant payments was expected to be low for the early part of the programme. One hundred and forty-one projects now have full approval to spend and claim grant, and recipients are being encouraged to take them forward promptly.

Mr. Kirkwood: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many written parliamentary questions were passed for answer to executive agencies and non-governmental departments in each of the last five years; and if she will make a statement. [14993]
Mr. Robin Squire: The information requested is a matter of public record, but could be extracted in the form requested only at disproportionate cost.
Dame Jill Knight: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what scope exists for Ofsted to examine whether compulsory sex education under the Education Act 1993 adheres to the requirements of sections 28 and 29 of the Local Government Act 1993.[16752]
Mr. Paice: I assume that my hon. Friend is referring to section 2A of the Local Government Act 1986--as inserted by section 28 of the Local Government Act 1988. Section 2A applies to the activities of local authorities and not to individual schools. It is not legislation with which school sex education must comply and is not therefore included within the scope of Ofsted's inspections of schools.
Mr. Wigley: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment when she will publish the results of the research carried out on behalf of her Department into unskilled home workers, referred to by the Under-Secretary of State for Consumer Affairs in his oral statement of 26 January, Official Report, column 585. [17394]

Mr. Jim Cunningham: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many people at school in (a) Coventry and (b) the west midlands are involved in the roots and wings monitoring scheme; and what proposals she has to encourage the development of the scheme in Coventry. [17121]
Mr. Robin Squire:
This information is not held centrally. The Government continue to encourage the development of effective links between business and education, which can help young people reach their highest potential and meet employers' needs for a well-qualified and motivated work force. Activities at local level are normally co-ordinated through education business partnerships involving senior representatives from employers, education and the local community.

Mr. Pawsey:
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, pursuant to her answer of 16 February, Official Report, column 735, if she will give the management and administration cost per pupil in each local education authority in England. [17134]
Mr. Robin Squire:
The following table provides the information requested, for the financial year 1995-96.
1. The figures have been calculated by dividing planned expenditure on management and adminsitration, as recorded in each LEA's LMS budget statement for 1995-96, by pupil numbers from the same source.
2. The amount per pupil is rounded to the nearest pound.

[17556]
Mr. Forth:
Responsibility for the subject of the question has been delegated to the Employment Service Agency under its chief executive. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.
