NHS Trusts

Mr. Morgan: To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he has had with the chairmen of the NHS trusts in Wales concerning mergers of trusts; what representations he has received from trusts concerning proposed (a) mergers and (b) takeovers, and if he will make a statement. [21058]

Mr. Hague: None. It is for the trust and health authorities themselves in the first instance to agree proposals which can demonstrate improved patient care. I would consider such proposals if they were put to me.

Surgery Cancellations

Mr. Milburn: To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will place in the Library a breakdown by district health authority of (a) the number of operations cancelled for non-medical reasons on or after the day of admission and (b) the number of patients not re-admitted within one month after a cancellation for each quarter since records began. [21441]

Mr. Richards: Information on the number of cancelled operations is not collected centrally. Information on the number of patients not re-admitted within one month after a cancellation is given in the following table. The data are collected from individual NHS trusts in Wales and figures may not, therefore, relate to residents of the health authority area in which the trust is situated.
