Mr. Cousins: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if she will list in rank order of spending per pupil the initial Government borrowing allocation for education capital spending for the years (a) 1994-95, (b) 1995-96 and (c) 1996-97 for each local education authority. [23703]
Mrs. Gillan: Education annual capital guidelines totals for 1994-95 and 1995-96, pupil numbers in county and voluntary controlled schools at January 1994 and January 1995, and ACG cover per pupil are given in the following tables, in descending order. Pupil numbers for January 1996 are not yet available. Apart from small amounts for local education authority liability at voluntary-aided schools, ACGs cover capital work at county and controlled schools only. Bids are assessed against clear priority criteria, which are not based on pupil numbers, and the ACG cover is used for particular schools, not spread across all schools in the LEA.
