Sir Irvine Patnick: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment (1) if she will list for each local education authority in England (a) the potential school budget expressed as a percentage of its standard spending assessment, (b) the potential school budget expressed as a percentage of its general schools budget and (c) the totals and averages for England for (a) and (b) for the year 1996-97; and if she will make a statement; [35851]

Mr. Robin Squire: The following table provides the information requested. The entries for general schools budget and potential schools budget have been derived from the local management of schools budget statements produced in respect of LEA--maintained schools under section 42 of the Education Reform Act 1988, and therefore excludes expenditure, recouped from LEAs, on grant-maintained schools.
