Parliamentary Questions

Mr. Alex Carlile: To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many parliamentary questions to his Department have been referred for answer to non-departmental public bodies for which he has responsibility, in each of the last six parliamentary sessions, and so far in the 1995-96 Session; and if he will make a statement. Hospital Waiting Times

Mr. Simon Hughes: To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many patients receiving (a) hip replacement, (b) cataract extraction, (c) kidney transplant and (d) hernia operations carried out by the NHS in Wales had to wait

for (i) more than six months, (ii) more than nine months, (iii) more than 12 months, (iv) more than 15 months and (v) more than 18 months in the most recent year for which figures are available. [38850]

Mr. Gwilym Jones: The available information is given in the following table. Not all hospitals provide the relevant data and therefore percentages are based only on cases where full data are available. There is no information on kidney transplant patients for 1995-96 but in the preceding year all such patients had their operations within six months.

It relates to general medical practitioners, the staff they employed and the staff directly employed by the former family health services authorities but does not include staff employed by NHS trusts or the former health authorities.
