Departmental Vehicles (Traffic Violations)

Ms Glenda Jackson: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the number of traffic violations involving departmental vehicles, the nature of the violations, and the total amount of fines arising from those violations, in each year since 1986. [39299]

Mr. Barnes: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer on how many occasions ministerial conference and

Air Passenger Duty

Ms Glenda Jackson: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much revenue has been raised from air passenger duty since its introduction. [39286]

Mrs. Angela Knight: Air passenger duty receipts, together with those for all other Customs and Excise taxes, are published every month by the Office for National Statistics in table 2.1D of the publication "Financial Statistics", which is held in the House of Commons Library.

Diesel Vehicles

Sir Graham Bright: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what (a) fiscal and (b) other measures he has evaluated to encourage research into particulate traps for diesel vehicles; [39757]

Mr. Jack: I have continued to look at a wide range of measures to promote the use of cleaner vehicles, technologies and fuels. I will carefully consider all these measures before reaching a judgment for the forthcoming Budget.

Publications

Ms Harman: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the average price of (a) "Social Trends" publications and (b) Economic Trends publications in each year since 1993. [39753]

Ministerial Visits

Mr. Rendel: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many visits (i) he and (ii) his Ministers made to (a) the Newbury constituency and (b) other constituencies in the last 12 months. [39867]

Mr. Kenneth Clarke: In the past 12 months my ministerial colleagues and I have made a number of visits to constituencies but have made no visits to the Newbury constituency.

Redundancies

Mr. Meacher: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many redundancies have been notified to his Department by employers in (a) the York parliamentary constituency, (b) the York travel-to-work area and (c) North Yorkshire in each of the last five years. [39569]

Mrs. Angela Knight: Information is not available for York parliamentary constituency, the travel-to-work area, or for North Yorkshire. In the Yorkshire, Humberside region the 1995 winter labour force survey estimates 19,000 people had been made redundant in the three months prior to interview.

Abortions

Mr. Sumberg: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he will give a breakdown by gestation of pregnancy of the number of abortions performed in the north-west region in the latest year for which figures are available; [39865] (2) how many abortions have now been performed in total within the north-west region under the provisions of the Abortion Act 1967; and how many and what percentage of those abortions were performed in emergency to save the life of the woman; [39863] (3) if he will make a statement on the statistically most likely candidate for an abortion within the north-west region after the 24th week of pregnancy in the latest year for which figures are available in terms of (a) the age of the woman, (b) the marital status of the woman, (c) the number of previous children of the woman and (d) the grounds under which the abortion is performed; [39862] (4) if he will give a breakdown by the procedure adopted of the number of abortions performed in the north-west region in the latest year for which figures are available. [39864]

Mr. Merchant: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will indicate the statistically most likely candidate for an abortion within the NHS South Thames region after the 24th week of pregnancy, in the latest year for which figures are available, in terms of (a) the age of the woman, (b) the marital status of the woman, (c) the number of previous children of the woman and (d) the grounds under which the abortion is performed. Mrs. Angela Knight: I regret that it has not been possible to provide a substantive answer before the summer recess. I shall write to the hon. Members shortly and place a copy of the letter in the Library.

Mr. Sumberg: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the statistically most likely candidate for an abortion within the north-west region in the latest year for which figures are available in terms of (a) the age of the woman, (b) the marital status of the woman, (c) the number of previous children of the woman and (d) the grounds under which the abortion is performed. Mr. Waldegrave: The statistically most likely candidate for an abortion for each of the variables listed is defined as the category with the highest recorded frequency of legal terminations. The percentages are based on all legal terminations performed in 1993, to women usually resident in the north-west health region.

Mr. Waldegrave: Figures for 1994 which give a breakdown of the number of abortions performed to usually resident women in the South Thames health region by gestation of pregnancy can be found in the OPCS monitor series AB95/9, "Legal abortions in England and Wales 1994: residents of regional and district health areas".

Mr. Merchant: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will indicate the statistically most likely candidate for an abortion within the South Thames region in the latest year for which figures are available in terms of (a) the age of the woman, (b) the marital status of the woman, (c) the number of previous children of the woman and (d) the grounds under which the abortion is performed. Mr. Waldegrave: The statistically most likely candidate for an abortion for each of the variables listed is defined as the category with the highest recorded frequency of legal terminations. The percentages are based on all legal terminations performed in 1993, to women usually resident in the South East and South West Thames health regions.

Mr. Merchant: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many abortions have been performed in total within the NHS South Thames region under the provisions of the Abortions Act 1967; and how many and what percentage of those abortions were performed in emergency to save the life of the mother. [39776]

Mr. Waldegrave: The total number of abortions carried out under the Abortion Act, to women usually resident in the South Thames health region 1 from 1970 to 1994 2 was 529,032. During this period 10 abortions, 0 per cent. of the total number of abortions performed were carried out in an emergency, certified by the operating practitioner as immediately necessary, to save the life of the woman 3 .
