Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to his answer of 15 July, Official Report, column 386, about the cost per patient per month of beta blocking drugs, in what form the information is available. [40989]
Mr. Malone: The net ingredient cost per prescription item dispensed for beta blockers in England for 1995 was £5.81. Most repeat prescriptions will be for one to three months.
Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the current percentage of patients in the Doncaster health authority who are covered by general practitioner fundholders. [40855]
Mr. Malone: Some 64 per cent. of the population of Doncaster health authority is currently served by a general practitioner fundholding practice.
Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for Health how much was spent by the Doncaster health authority in (a) 1995-96 and (b) 1994-95 on (i) tendering for services

Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list the median waiting periods (a) currently and (b) in each of the last two years for patients needing (i) hip replacements and (ii) cataract treatment at each hospital in the Trent region where the operation is provided. [40924]

Mr. Battle: To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on hospital waiting times in Leeds. [41287]
Mr. Horam: Waiting times for in-patient and day case treatment in Leeds have improved considerably over the last year. Latest published figures show that only 51 patients out of 16,268 were waiting more than a year for treatment at the two main hospitals in Leeds this March compared with 675 out of 13,492 last March. Along with the rest of the country, Leeds hospitals are working towards achieving the patients charter standards for the first out-patient appointments so that everyone is seen within 26 weeks of referral by their general practitioner, with nine out of 10 patients seen within 13 weeks.
Mr. Spearing: To ask the Secretary of State for Health what re-assessment has been made of the calculations of the standard spending assessment for children's services for the financial year 1997-98; what was the assessed figure for the London borough of Newham for the year 1996-97 and that for 1997-98 under this assessment. [40839]
Mr. Burns: For 1996-97, the standard spending assessment--SSA--for children's social services for the London borough of Newham is £27.191 million. The Government's proposals for 1997-98 SSAs are expected to be issued for consultation shortly after the Budget.
Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for Health, (1) pursuant to his answer of 23 July, Official Report, column 216, if he will list the research his Department has (a) commissioned and (b) evaluated into the likelihood of developing tardive dyskinesia as a result of taking anti-psychotic drugs and ascertaining whether tardive dyskinesia is an irreversible condition; and if he will make a statement; [40860]

Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for Health what are the recommendations issued by his Department in respect of homeless people being placed on a general practitioner's list; up to how many refusals a homeless person may receive before he is placed on a general practitioner's list; and if he will make a statement. Mr. Malone: A permanent address is not necessary for the registration of a patient with a general practitioner and all health authorities and general practitioners are aware of this. The Department encourages the permanent registration of homeless people wherever possible. Should, however, any patient have difficulty in registering with a doctor, health authorities have the power to assign the patient to a GP.
Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the current maximum age for voluntary gender reassignment on the national health service for (a) males and (b) females. [40859]
Mr. Horam: There are no clinically effective treatments provided under the national health service that should be withheld from any patient on age grounds alone. The NHS provides services for everybody on the basis of clinical need.

Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for Health what number of teeth affected by decay in five-year-old children, and what number of decayed, missing and filled teeth in 14-year-old children are currently found in the Doncaster health authority area; and what is the national average for each category. Mr. Malone: The most recent figures available show that the number of decayed, missing and filled teeth--DMFT--for five-year-olds in Doncaster in 1993-94 was 2.15, while the national average was 1.74; and the DMFT figure for 14-year-olds in Doncaster in 1994-95 was 2.32 while the national average was 1.67.
Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many mentally handicapped children are currently in NHS hospital care in (a) the Trent region and (b) nationally; and what were the equivalent figures in each of the past four years. [40923]

Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list the hospitals in South Yorkshire that have recorded incidents of MRSA since 1990; and how many patients suffered in each incident. [40992]

Information on the percentage of children attending each type of pre-school day care facility was published in the Office of Population Censuses and Survey survey of "Day care services for children", 1990, a copy of which is available in the Library.
