Mr. Ancram: New full-time, permanent lecturers who do not already possess an approved teacher training qualification are expected to achieve the postgraduate certificate in further and higher education within three years of appointment. In-service training awards are available from the Department to assist such lecturers attend this part-time course at the University of Ulster.

Mr. Ancram: In 1993-94, 995 national vocational qualifications awards were made by the main bodies to persons aged 19 or under; in 1994-95 the figure was 756. Enrolments in general national vocational qualifications programmes in further education colleges were as follows:

Mr. Ancram: A total of 1,295 primary school places were removed in the 1995-96 school year. No surplus secondary school places were removed.
Mr. Worthington: To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what has been the recurrent cost per pupil in primary, secondary and special education in each year since 1989-90, starting with the current cost in that year equalling 100. [3009]
