Quarantine

Mr. Morley: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, pursuant to his answer on 5 November, Official Report, column 488, on quarantine regulations, if his review will extend to the provisions for the importation of dogs and cats from other states in the EU; and if he will make a statement. Mrs. Browning: The review will extend to the provisions for the importation of pet dogs and cats from other states in the EU.

Veterinary Medicines

Mr. Morley: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will publish a list of veterinary medicinal products authorised for marketing in the United Kingdom. [5410]

Mrs. Browning: As recommended by the Agriculture Select Committee, officials of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate are preparing a list of veterinary medicinal products authorised in the United Kingdom. It is intended that the list will be published early in 1997.

Suicides

Mrs. Ann Winterton: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what research has recently been commissioned by his Department into suicides among farmers; if that research has been published; what its principal conclusions are; what response he has made to the findings; and if he will make a statement. [4908]

Mr. Burns: I have been asked to reply.

The Department of Health has commissioned Professor Keith Hawton, University of Oxford, to undertake a study on suicides in high risk occupational groups, including an investigation of suicides among farmers. The study is in its final stages, and a report is expected in early 1997.
