Mr. Bayley:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many children aged under 16 years in each health authority area were discharged from hospital after removal of tonsils and/or adenoids in the most recent year for which figures are available; and if he will indicate the discharge rate per 10,000 children aged under 16 years in each health authority area. [20864]
Mr. Horam:
The latest available information on the number of operations on patients under 16 for the removal of tonsils and adenoids, and the rate per 10,000 population, is shown in the table. Information on the number of children discharged from hospital is not available centrally.
Notes:
These statistics are generated by analysing the contents of a complex database. Over time, small numbers of inaccuracies present in the records are discovered and action is taken to correct them. As a result of this action, figures can slightly vary at times and consequently can be considered as "estimates".
Data in this table are grossed for both coverage and unknown/invalid clinical data.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many patients were admitted with fractured neck of femur; what percentage survived beyond 30 days of admission for this condition; and what percentage standardised for age and sex survived beyond 30 days of admission for this condition in each acute NHS trust in each of the last three years. [20867]
Mr. Horam:
Standard information on hospital admissions by diagnosis is available in the "Hospital Episodes Statistics" publications, copies of which are available in the Library. As to the additional information requested, mortality in hospital after admission for fractured neck of femur is listed in a set of 14 clinical indicators we are preparing to pilot throughout the national health service. It will not be possible to link hospital admissions with deaths in the community after discharge from hospital for the foreseeable future.
Mr. Bayley:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many patients were admitted from home as emergencies with a principal diagnosis of fractured neck of femur; what percentage of these patients were discharged home within 56 days; and what percentage standardised for age and sex were discharged home within 56 days in each acute NHS trust in each of the last three years.
