Make subject to a local planning inquiry any proposal to widen the M25 motorway or to vary the number or width of lanes within its existing curtilage.

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-
 

Duty to establish local planning inquiries.     1. - (1) Upon receiving any application for the widening of the M25 trunk road, or for a variation in the number or width of lanes within that road's existing curtilage, the Secretary of State shall direct the appropriate local planning authority or authorities to establish a local planning inquiry or inquiries into that application.
 
      (2) The Secretary of State shall not determine any such application as described in subsection (1) until he has received the report of any local planning inquiry established under that subsection which is relevant to the application.
 
Definition of "widening".     2. In this Act "widening" means extension beyond the existing curtilage of the motorway.
 
Short title.     3. This Act may be cited as the Widening of the M25 Motorway Act 1998.
