Twenty-First Annual Report 1998-99 | Annex A Information Systems Steering Group |
Information Systems Steering Group Annual Report 1998-99
The Information Systems Steering Group (ISSG) is chaired by the Director of Finance and Administration. It is attended by representatives from the Departments of the House with responsibilities for providing effective and efficient systems, both to enable Departments to carry out their duties and for delivering information to Members and others concerned with the work of Parliament.
In June 1998 the group reviewed its terms of reference in order to align them more closely with those of other sub-committees of the Board of Management and to better describe its role in relation to the improved management systems which had been put in place by the Board. These terms of reference were subsequently approved by the Board.
The bulk of activity during the year was directed at developing and supervising the interlinked programmes for achieving both millennium compliance and a convergent network based on the IT strategy agreed by both Houses of Parliament. The work continues on target to meet the planned completion date of autumn 1999 and the group agreed the appointment of the necessary project managers to carry forward and co-ordinate the substantial amount of effort involved.
On other fronts the Group has agreed new arrangements for the central provision of hardware for Departments of the House, provided the necessary inputs about information systems to the overall financial planning process under the direction of PMC(F), developed the terms of reference for the IS strategy review and overseen continued work on security policy by the recently appointed IT Security Officer.
