Note  1.  The Treasury's aim is to raise the rate of sustainable economic growth.

       2.  HM Customs and Excise and the Department of Health do not address sustainable development in their objectives but do refer to the Government's aim to pursue it.

3.  The Ministry of Defence have not yet produced their Performance Report for 1997- 98.


In their 1998 departmental reports ten out of eighteen government departments made a commitment to sustainable development in their overall aims and objectives.
