Select Committee on Health First Report

APPENDIX 17

Letter from the President Old Fairbridgians Association (Molong) to the Clerk of the Committee

(CHILD MIGRANTS) (CM 238)
Following meeting with Select Committee, Canberra ACT 23 June 1998 please be advised that the Old Northcotian files are being held in a garage of the daughters of former Farm School Principal, Mr Alf Wignall at the following address:c/o Mrs Glenda G Stephenson, 53 Gisborne Road, Bacchus Marsh, Victoria. The Northcote Trust were made aware of this fact by myself in 1989 and to the best of my knowledge no action was taken to secure these personal and sensitive files Northcotiens who knew of the files whereabouts have obtained their own records as I did however the great majority are not aware of the availability of these records. The media over the past decade has given adverse publicity to the accessibility to former Child Migrants files. For your Committees information the Old Fairbridgians Association Malong the Fairbridge Foundation NSW and Fairbridge London negotiated a satisfactory procedure for all parties and persons to gain information from these files. Copies of these procedures are attached for your records.Trusting your Australian Whirlwind visit enabled the committee to obtain a broader view of the current problems and thanking you for your time whilst you were here.

3 July 1998.
