GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR THE CHILD MIGRANTS
TRUST UK1. The Child Migrants Trust
was established in 1987 to reunite child migrants with their families.2.
The aim of the organisation is to provide a professional social
work, counselling, family research and advisory service for former
child migrants and their families.3. DEPARTMENT
OF HEALTH
FUNDINGTo date they have received
cumulative funding of £146,250 to help in their activities
and further funding has been agreed for the years 1997-98 and
1998-99 at £25,000 and £20,000 respectively.This funding
is through the Department's General Section 64 Scheme. Section
64 of the Health Services and Public Health Act 1968, empowers
this Department to make grants, and its objectives are to support
the agreed national activities of the voluntary sector in relation
to health and personal services within England.4. OTHER
FUNDINGThe bulk of the Trust funding
currently comes from Nottingham County Council who provided £84,000
in 1997-98. Three year funding to employ additional social workers
has recently been received from the National Lottery. The rest
of their income comes from donations from individuals and Trusts.The
Trust receives two grants from the Australian Government to fund
its services in Melbourne and Perththese amount to roughly
£60,000 per annum.
