Copy of a letter dated 4 May 1998 from
the Minister of Canadian Heritage to Mr John Willoughby, Chairman,
The Ellen Foundation Inc.
I very
much enjoyed our discussion on 5 February 1998, on the "Home
Children" and the work of The Ellen Foundation. The Department
of Canadian Heritage is delighted to promote the work of the Foundation
by providing the Simpson House as office premises. As well, I
have spoken and written to my colleague, the Honourable Lucienne
Robillard, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, and she was
impressed with the scope of the task that the Foundation has undertaken.
Accordingly, there will be further discussions between officials
of our departments in order to devise ways in which we can further
support the work of the Foundation. It is my understanding that
you will be travelling to the United Kingdom in the spring to
appear before the Health Select Committee of the British House
of Commons, and you may relay my support for your project. Indeed,
Mr Robert Ghiz of my staff has been reviewing various options
that would help with your presentation to the Committee, and he
will apprise you of his progress.I would like to express my personal
support and admiration for the work of the Foundation, and look
forward to reviewing its progress when I next travel to Prince
Edward Island. Please accept my best wishes for success in your
endeavours.
Yours sincerely,
Sheila Copps
