Sir John Bourn, KCB, Comptroller and Auditor General, was further examined.

The Committee deliberated.

Resolved, That notwithstanding his declared involvement, as a Minister in the former Administration, in matters to be considered at this day's meeting, the Chairman remain in the Chair of the Committee. - (Mr Alan Williams).

Mr Jamie Mortimer, Treasury Officer of Accounts, was further examined.

Mr John Higgins, Assistant Auditor General, the National Audit Office, was examined.

The Comptroller and Auditor General's report on Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Contingent Liabilities in the Dependent Territories (HC 13) was considered.

Sir John Kerr, KCMG, Permanent Under-Secretary of State and Head of the Diplomatic Service, Mr Peter Westmacott, LVO, Director Americas, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office; Mr John Kerby, Director, Eastern Europe and Western Hemisphere, the Department for International Development; and Mr Lee Beaumont, Head of Airport Security, Transport Security Branch, the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, were examined (HC 435-i).

Motion made and Question put, That Strangers do now withdraw. - (The Chairman).

John Kerr, KCMG, and Mr Peter Westmacott, LVO, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office; Mr John Kerby, Department for International Development; and Mr Lee Beaumont, the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, were further examined (HC 435-i).

Resolved, That the Report be the Thirty-seventh Report of the Committee to the House.

Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

Ordered, That the provisions of Standing Order No. 134 (Select Committees (Reports)) be applied to the Report.
