Select Committee on Public Accounts Minutes of Evidence

TREASURY CONTROLS (PAC 97-98/198)

Part of a letter and a Memorandum from the Comptroller and Auditor General,
National Audit Office

In summary the Comptroller and Auditor General recommends that the Committee accept the proposals made by the Treasury concerning gifts, losses and special payments, contingent liabilities and fees and charges. However he has some concerns about the proposal to make departments solely responsible for responding to the reports of the Committee. The Committee may wish to consider the Comptroller and Auditor General's conclusions in the attached memorandum and, if the Committee wishes, he would be happy to provide a draft response to the Treasury.
