    Mr Jamie Mortimer, Treasury Officer of Accounts, was further examined.

    The Comptroller and Auditor General's report on The Performance of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme in England (HC 678) was considered.

    Mr Alan Langlands, Chief Executive, Dr Sue Atkinson, Regional Director of Public Health, South Thames Regional Office, and Mrs Julietta Patnick, National Coordinator, Cancer Screening Services, the National Health Service Executive, were examined (HC 757-i).

      Ordered, That the draft Report be read a second time, paragraph by paragraph.

      Paragraphs 1 to 6 read and agreed to.

      Paragraph 7 postponed.

      Paragraphs 8 to 88 read and agreed to.

      Postponed paragraph 7 read and agreed to.

      Resolved, That the Report be the Sixty-ninth Report of the Committee to the House.

      Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

      Ordered, That the provisions of Standing Order No. 134 (Select Committees (Reports)) be applied to the Report.

      Papers (PAC 97-98/402 and 426) were ordered to be appended to the Minutes of Evidence.

       Ordered, That the Appendix to the Minutes of Evidence taken before the Committee be reported to the House—(The Chairman).
