Annex E

LIST OF ADVISORY BODIES BY CATEGORY AND DEPARTMENT

A.  BODIES WHICH ADVISE GOVERNMENT ON THE CURRENT STATE OF PLAY IN SPECIFIC AREAS OF SCIENCE

MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE, FISHERIES AND FOOD

MAFF operates a large number and wide range of scientific advisory committees to provide advice to Ministers on issues of importance. Membership of these committees is largely made up of external scientific experts, but also includes, in most cases, consumer representatives and other interested parties. MAFF has worked hard to increase public awareness of the important job undertaken by its advisory committees by making information on membership, Terms of Reference and minutes of meetings freely available. The main MAFF scientific advisory committees are:

    —  Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes

    —  Advisory Committee on Pesticides

    —  Farm Animal Welfare Council

    —  Food Advisory Committee

    —  Hill Farming Advisory Committee for England, Wales and Northern Ireland

    —  Microbiological Safety of Food Advisory Committee

    —  Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee
