Advisory Group on Medical Countermeasures
Chairman:
Professor Peter Blain, University of Newcastle.
Terms of Reference:
Advises the Secretary of State for Defence on
measures for the future protection of Services and associated
civilian personnel in all likely biological and chemical weapon
environments. Members are leading medical and medical ethics specialists
and are appointed by the Secretary of State. The Deputy under-Secretary
(S&T) attends, or is represented at the Group's meetings.
Animal Welfare Advisory Committee
Chairman:
Dr Jeremy Lucke.
Terms of Reference:
Consists of group of independent experts who
are required to act as the "eyes and ears" of the public,
to monitor programmes of experimentation and to ensure that the
standards of animal care are as high as possible. Members are
appointed by and report to the MoD CSA and their annual reports
are deposited in the libraries of Parliament.
Interactions Research Independent Panel
Chairman:
Professor Harrison Spencer, Dean of the London
School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Terms of Reference:
Panel is composed of distinguished members of
the medical and scientific communities. It advises MoD and DERA
Porton Down on a programme of research which examines the possible
health implications of the combination of vaccines and tablets
which UK troops were given in the Gulf War to protect them against
biological and chemical warfare agents.
The Gulf Health Steering Group
Chairman:
Sir Alan McGregor.
Terms of Reference:
Advises the MoD on research into Gulf Veterans'
illness.
