level
Airborne Particles Expert Group
Chairman:
Professor R Harrison.
Terms of Reference:
To review current knowledge, and to advise Ministers
on the levels and sources of particles in the UK; the physical
and chemical characteristics of particles; and the long-range
transport capabilities of particles.
Climate Change Impacts Review Group
Chairman:
Professor M Parry.
Terms of Reference:
To review current knowledge of climate change
and its impacts with respect to the UK; to assess the potential
changes in climate expected for the UK and, building in published
work, review the potential impacts of these changes; and to advise
the Department on further research required on climate change
impacts in the UK.
The Committee on Chemicals and Materials of Construction
for use in Public Water Supply and Swimming Pools
Chairman:
Dr N King.
Terms of Reference:
To consider and assess the possible impact on
the health of consumers of all chemicals, processes and materials
of construction for use in contact with drinking water for which
an application for approval has been made to the Secretary of
State under the provisions of the Water Supply (Water Quality)
Regulations 1989 or to the SofS for Scotland under the provisions
of the Water Supply (Water Quality) (Scotland) Regulations 1990.
To advise the SofS on matters of granting approval; any conditions
which should be attached to approval; any need to exercise powers
to revoke approval, or to prohibit the use of substances or products.
To carry out periodic reviews of all approvals, or specific reviews
at the SofS's request. To consider the possible impact on the
health of swimmers of swimming pool treatment chemicals for which
an application for approval has been made to the Committee under
the terms of its voluntary approvals arrangements. To consider
any conditions which should be attached to approval; any need
to exercise powers to revoke approval, or to prohibit the use
of substances or products. To carry out periodic reviews of all
approvals, or specific reviews at the request of the Pool Water
Treatment Advisory Group.
The Expert Group on Cryptosporidium in Water Supplies
Chairman:
Professor I Bouchier.
Terms of Reference:
To assess the lessons learned from suspected
water borne outbreaks of cryptosporidiosis, consider the results
of research carried out since publication of the second report
of the Group of Experts and consider whether there is need for
further advice on the issues involved.
Hadley Centre Science Review Group
Chairman:
Professor R Gurney.
Terms of Reference:
To keep under review the content and progress
of the Climate Prediction Programme (CPP) and the climate activities
of the Meteorological Office's Public Meteorological Service research
and development programme, to ensure that they provide the best
possible advice on the scientific aspects of climate to the DETR
and the MoD. To keep under review the interaction between the
Hadley Centre programme and other climate research programmes,
within the UK and abroad. To provide DETR and MoD with conclusions
and recommendations arising from the review process.
Stratospheric Ozone Review Group
Chairman:
Dr J Pyle.
Terms of Reference:
To review our current understanding of stratospheric
ozone; the threat to it from man's activities, and related topics.
To recommend areas where further research, within the national
effort is needed. To provide the Department with advice on scientific
matters relating to policy issues concerning stratospheric ozone
and related topics.
UK Climate Impacts Programme Steering Committee
Chairman:
Dr D Warrilow.
Terms of Reference:
To support the DETR in overseeing and providing
direction for the integrated assessment of the impacts of climate
change on the UK; to ensure that the programme meets the needs
of the end users/stakeholders; to review the top level outputs
of the programme.
