implications of major issues concerning the development and implementation
of an overall policy for all aspects of the management of civil
radioactive waste, including research and development, and on
any such matter referred to it by the Secretaries of State.
Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution
Chairman:
Sir John Houghton (soon to be replaced by Sir
Tom Blundell).
Terms of Reference:
To advise on matters, both national and international,
concerning the pollution of the environment; on the adequacy of
research in this field; and the future possibilities of danger
to the environment.
Environment Agency
Advisory Committee on Pesticides
Chairperson:
Sir Colin Berry.
Terms of Reference:
Under section 16(9) Ministers are required to
consult the Advisory Committee:
as to regulations which they contemplate
making;
as to approvals of pesticides which
they contemplate giving, revoking or suspending; and
as to conditions to which they contemplate
making approvals subject.
Interdepartmental Working Groups on Biocides
Chairperson:
Mr C Barden.
Terms of Reference:
To assist Biocides Policy Section
in HSE in its negotiations of the Biocidal Products Directive,
and related issues.
Involvement in implementation of
the Directive.
To draw members from all other Government
Departments and Agencies who have an interest in the Directive.
National Collaborative Forum for Environmental
Monitoring
Chairperson:
Dr J Pentreath.
Terms of Reference:
Provide a national focus for collaboration
between key player organisations on environmental monitoring and
assessment issues;
make arrangements for improving the
overall efficiency by sharing information, developing links between
relevant organisations and joint sponsorship of projects and programmes;
bring together groups of experts
and task teams, where appropriate, to carry out work items with
a specific technical focus;
help bridge the gap between the supply
of and demand for environmental information;
report on progress every year to
a wide audience; and
meet on a needs must basis, which
would initially be about 2-3 times a year.
