Letter from Mr Charles Miller of the Association
of Professional Political Consultants to the Parliamentary Commissioner
for Standards
Thank you for your letter of 27 February 1997.
I have consulted across our membership on the question you raise
and can confirm that the payment of commissions by lobbying firms
to MPs was not a common practice during the period in question;
indeed, only one firm could recall ever being approached by an
MP for such purposes. since May 1994, regulated lobbyists have
been banned from any financial relationship with MPs and, although
it may fall outside the period covered by your inquiry, IGA fully
observed that rule from the date we were established until it
resigned from our membership at the end of last year.
I hope that the above fully answers your question.
