Select Committee on Standards and Privileges First Report

APPENDIX 53

Letter from Sir Michael Grylls MP to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards

I would like to stress that my work with Ian Greer is one issue.

My relationship with Mr Fayed and my interest (on the fringe) with his dispute with Lonrho is a separate issue.

There has never been any financial connection whatsoever between the three of us so far as the Harrods "controversy" is concerned.

In all the allegations that Mr Fayed has made, he has never insinuated that I ever asked for, or received any payment for my interest in his problems.

I can understand why, in the light of Mr Fayed's allegations that Ian Greer asked for, and received, additional quarterly payments, that these could be supposed to be linked to my half yearly invoices to Ian Greer for UTC purposes. However, this is a coincidence, not a fact, as is, I hope, confirmed by my small amount of activity on behalf of Harrods.

I do hope you will accept my word on this matter.
