Prophylactic Mastectomy Registry Bill | |
B I L L TO Establish a United Kingdom registry of women who have undergone prophylactic mastectomy surgery. BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- | |
Prophylactic mastectomy registry. | 1. - (1) A prophylactic mastectomy registry (referred to in this Act as "the registry") shall be established. |
(2) The Secretary of State shall be responsible for the maintenance of the registry. | |
(3) The duty of the registry shall be to maintain and make available a register containing information submitted in accordance with sections 2, 3 and 4 below. | |
Information to be contained in register. | 2. In the case of each prophylactic mastectomy operation carried out in the United Kingdom, there shall be recorded in the register- |

Duty of relevant pathologists to submit information to the registry. | 3. It shall be the duty of the relevant pathologist to report upon each prophylactic mastectomy operation to ensure that information concerning that operation is submitted to the registry. |
Regulations. | 4. - (1) The Secretary of State may make regulations- |

(2) Regulations under this section shall be made by statutory instrument which shall be subject to annulment in pursuance of a resolution of either House of Parliament. | |
Financial provisions. | 5. There shall be paid out of money provided by Parliament any expenditure incurred by the Secretary of State by virtue of this Act. |
Short title, commencement and extent. | 6. - (1) This Act may be cited as the Prophylactic Mastectomy Registry Act 1999. |
(2) This Act (apart from this section) shall come into force on such day as the Secretary of State may by order made by statutory instrument appoint. | |
(3) This Act extends to Scotland and Northern Ireland. |
