Amend the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 with respect to acts of recklessness, time limits for bringing proceedings and penalties.

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-
 

Amendment of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.     1. - (1) The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 is amended as follows.
 
      (2) In Part I (wildlife), after the word "intentionally", in each place where it occurs, insert the words "or recklessly".
 
      (3) In section 20 (summary prosecutions), for subsection (1) substitute-
 
 
    "(1) This section applies to all offences under this Part."
 
      (4) In section 21 (penalties, forfeitures etc.), at the end of subsection (1) insert the words "or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months.".
 
Short title, commencement and extent.     2. - (1) This Act may be cited as the Wildlife and Countryside (Amendment) Act 1999.
 
      (2) This Act shall not come into force in Scotland unless approved by an order of the Scottish Parliament.
 
      (3) This Act does not extend to Northern Ireland.
