Crown application. |
97. This Act binds the Crown. |
Commencement. |
98. - (1) Subject to subsections (2) and (3), the preceding provisions of this Act shall come into force on such day as the Lord Chancellor may by order made by statutory instrument appoint; and different days may be appointed for different purposes and, in the case of section 61(2), for different areas. |

(2) Section 44 shall come into force on the day on which this Act is passed. |
|
(3) The following provisions shall come into force at the end of the period of two months beginning with the day on which this Act is passed- |
|
(a) in Part II, sections 31 to 33, |
|
(b) Part IV, apart from section 61, |
|
(c) in Part V, sections 64 to 66, 72, 73, 75 and 77 and Schedule 8, |
|
(d) in Part VI, section 94, |
|
|
|
(f) in Schedule 14, Part III and Part IV(1) and (6), apart from the provisions specified in subsection (4), and |
|
|
|
(4) The provisions excepted from subsection (3)(f) are the repeal of section 67(8) of the Magistrates' Courts Act 1980 (and that in Schedule 11 to the Children Act 1989) contained in Part IV(1) of Schedule 14. |
Extent. |
99. - (1) Sections 31 to 33 and 63(2) extend to Scotland. |

(2) Sections 88(2) and (3) and 94(2) extend to Northern Ireland. |
|
(3) Sections 91, 92 and 93 extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. |
|
(4) The other provisions of this Act which make amendments or repeals or revocations in other enactments also have the same extent as the enactments which they amend or repeal or revoke. |

(5) Subject to subsection (4), the provisions of this Part (including paragraph 1, but not the rest, of Schedule 13) extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. |
|
(6) Subject to the preceding provisions, this Act extends to England and Wales. |
|
(7) For the purposes of the Scotland Act 1998 this Act, so far as it extends to Scotland, shall be taken to be a pre-commencement enactment within the meaning of that Act. |
Short title. |
100. This Act may be cited as the Access to Justice Act 1999. |
