General
Interpretation.     31. Expressions which are used both in this Act and in the Railways Act 1993 and are given a meaning for the purposes of that Act, or Part I of that Act, have the same meaning in this Act.
 
Commencement.     32. The preceding provisions of this Act shall come into force on such day as the Secretary of State may by order made by statutory instrument appoint; and different days may be appointed for different purposes.
 
Financial provision.     33. - (1) There shall be paid out of money provided by Parliament-
 
 
    (a) any expenditure incurred by any Minister of the Crown or government department under or by virtue of this Act, and
 
    (b) any increase attributable to this Act in the sums payable out of money so provided under any other enactment.
      (2) There shall be issued to the Secretary of State by the Treasury out of the National Loans Fund any sums required by him for making loans to the Strategic Rail Authority.
 
      (3) There shall be paid into the National Loans Fund any repayment of, or payment of interest on, loans made by the Secretary of State to the Strategic Rail Authority.
 
      (4) There shall be paid into the Consolidated Fund any sums received by the Secretary of State under this Act (apart from any required to be paid into the National Loans Fund).
 
Short title and extent.     34. - (1) This Act may be cited as the Railways Act 1999.
 
      (2) The amendments and repeals made by this Act have the same extent as the enactments to which they relate; but, subject to that, this Act does not extend to Northern Ireland.
