NHS Clinical Negligence Claims

Mr. Moore: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the cost of clinical negligence claims to the NHS in (a) each region and (b) each NHS trust in each year since 1994-95. [77136]

Mr. Galbraith: The cost of clinical negligence claims to the NHS for each Health Board area including NHS Trusts since 1994-95 is set out in the table.

The information has been aggregated at Health Board level to protect patient confidentiality at Trusts where only one, or very few, claims have been settled. Similarly, Health Boards which have only a small number of claims have been aggregated to protect patient confidentiality.

From 1 July 1999 this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.

NHS Training and Education

Mr. Moore: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what data his Department collects on expenditure on NHS training and education and its distribution. [77134]

Mr. Galbraith: My Department holds information on expenditure on those education and training activities in the NHS in Scotland which are funded through the Scottish Council for Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education (SCPMDE) and other central funding mechanisms.

From 1 July 1999 this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.

Pupil Funding

Mrs. Laing: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list, by local authority area, the level of (i) nursery and (ii) secondary education funding per pupil in (a) cash terms and (b) 1998-99 prices in each year since 1992. [77743]

Mrs. Liddell: The information is given in the tables. 1996-97 is the latest financial year for which actual expenditure information is currently available. The figures, which are derived from local authority returns, do not include the cost of home-to-school transport, school meals, education authority administration costs and loan charges.
