Mr. Moore: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what data his Department collects on expenditure on NHS training and education and its distribution. [77134]
Mr. Galbraith: My Department holds information on expenditure on those education and training activities in the NHS in Scotland which are funded through the Scottish Council for Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education (SCPMDE) and other central funding mechanisms.
From 1 July 1999 this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.

The information is given in the tables. 1996-97 is the latest financial year for which actual expenditure information is currently available. The figures, which are derived from local authority returns, do not include the cost of home-to-school transport, school meals, education authority administration costs and loan charges.
