English Tourism Council

Mr. Peter Ainsworth: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport when he intends to appoint the new chairman of the English Tourism Council. [83032]

Janet Anderson: The recruitment process is under-way and the chairman will be appointed as soon as possible.

Mr. Peter Ainsworth: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what will be the remuneration of the new chairman of the English Tourism Council. [83033]

Janet Anderson: The chairman of the English Tourism Council will be paid £36,000 per annum.

Tourism

Mr. Peter Ainsworth: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport which organisation will in future be responsible for handling consumer inquiries about tourism in England. [83035]

Janet Anderson: As at present, the primary sources of information will be the regional tourist boards and the tourist information centres. The English Tourism Council will have a strategic role to play and will oversee information systems and how their use is developed.

SCOTLAND

CCTV

Sir Robert Smith: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many publicly funded CCTV schemes are

operating; if he will list them (a) by each local authority area and (b) by the date they started operating; and how many schemes are planned to be introduced over the next year. [82444]

Mr. McLeish: Table 1 lists only those schemes (by local authority area) which have been awarded funding from The Scottish Office CCTV Challenge Competition between 1996-97 to 1998-99. Information on other CCTV systems is not held centrally. Information regarding the dates when systems became operational is also not held centrally but the table details the financial year in which grant was awarded to each scheme. Table 2 lists the 18 schemes (covering 14 local authority areas) awarded grant in the 1999-2000 round of the Competition.

Ministerial Meetings (US)

Mr. Matthew Taylor: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many times Ministers in his Department have held meetings with members and officials in the US Administration since 1 June 1998, indicating the dates and locations of each meeting, the Ministers involved at each meeting and the US department involved in each meeting. [82264]

Mr. Dewar: I met the Under Secretary for Economics, Agriculture and Business Affairs, State Department, and the Special Trade Negotiator, US Trade Representative, on 17 March 1999 in Washington.

Special Advisers

Mr. Tyrie: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, pursuant to his answer of 24 March 1999, Official Report, column 321, on special advisers, if he will give the total travel cost of each occasion when (a) departmental and (b) non-departmental advisers have travelled abroad in an official capacity since 2 May 1997 and the place visited. [82414]

Mr. Dewar: For the period 2 May 1997 to 31 March 1999, Special Advisers in my Department have travelled overseas in an official capacity on four occasions to Brussels, Strasbourg, Bonn and the United States. The total cost of travel and any hotel accommodation is £6,530. All travel complied with the requirements of the Ministerial Code and the Civil Service Management Code.

Registers

Ms Roseanna Cunningham: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the proposed fee structure for searches of the registers of Scotland by (a) solicitors and search lawyers and (b) the general public. [82501]

Mr. Dewar [holding answer 29 April 1999]: The fee structure for searches in the Registers of Scotland is set out in the Fees in the Registers of Scotland Amendment Order 1999, S1 1999/1085 (S87) which was made on 7 April and came into effect on 21 April 1999. The order introduces uniform fees for searching the Registers for

all customers. No distinction is made between solicitors, searchers and the general public. The pertinent fee rates are as follows:
