EU Food and Veterinary Office
Mr. Paterson: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) if staffing of the European Union Food and Veterinary Office is allocated on the basis of national quotas; [88295]
- (2) how many professional grade officials are employed by the European Union Food and Veterinary Office; and how many are (a) United Kingdom citizens, (b) qualified veterinarians and (c) qualified environmental health officers. [88221]
Mr. Rooker: This is a matter for the European Commission.
Mr. Paterson: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations (a) he and (b) his officials have made to the European Union Commission as to the composition of the EU Food and Veterinary Office. [88287]
Wild Boar
Sir Geoffrey JohnsonSmith: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will introduce measures to protect the health status of the pig herd from the potential threat of colonies of free-living wild boar. [87958]
Mr. Rooker: We are considering options for an animal health risk assessment of wild boar. This will examine the potential for disease transmission or other interactions between wild boar and livestock and will help us consider whether action needs to be taken to limit or eradicate the population of wild boar.
Genetic Modification
Mr. Chope: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will amend his Department's Fact Sheet issued in June 1999 on genetic modification of crops and food to incorporate the recommendations of the Chief Medical officer and the Chief Scientific Advisor on population health surveillance. [89056]
Mr. Rooker: Yes. The fact sheet has already been up-dated.
